Shaw Cup 5 - Old Xavier Versus MURFC

On the 12th of June 2004 the boys from Old Xavier resumed their annual rivalry against the veterans from Melbourne University. Although the scoreline was one sided the rugby was not.

The older Melbourne University dominated possession, with a much heavier and more experoienced pack. But could not dominate the scoreline as the disorganised but scrambling defence of Old Xavier frustrated them at every turn.

And ultimately it was the more faster Old Xavier team, with skills honed on Sunday morning playing touch under the tutelage of Martin Tighe who dominated the scoreline. With open running rugby they ran away with the game

They opened the coring with an opportunist try to Peter Shaw. Taking the quick tap and forcing his way over from 5 metres

From there the flood gates opnened Xavier scoring in quick sucession tries out wide to Marty and Wilson Tighe and Mark Bowker

The final scoreline was seven tries to Melbourne Universities two. And so Old Xavier retained the Shaw Cup
