Dan Hayden
Having eschewed rugby for Australian Rules while a student at Xavier, Dan Hayden played competitive rugby for the first time at Newman College and for Melbourne University RUFC Colts, and he met Peter Shaw when they shared a forward pack together at RMIT in the Australian University Games of 1998. A player of short, stocky stature but only limited ability, his talents found a place in the middle of the front row and he now owns a series of jerseys emblazoned with the Number 2.
Dan holds the distinction of being the only person apart from Peter Shaw to have particpated in every match played for the E.M.Shaw Cup. He also holds the distinction of being knocked out during the game against the College Crescent Combined outfit, having concussion and slight amnesia, and yet being asked to referee the second half of the match (the Old Xavier resident medico advised against it).Unfortunately his uninterrupted run in the Old Xavier side will come to an end in 2007 as Dan currently resides in the UK and will be unavailable for selection until at least 2009.
